BCRC (WA) Pty Ltd

BCRC (WA) Pty Ltd is managed by Frank Papworth.

BCRC (WA) was originally established as Papworths Pty Ltd but changed its name to BCRC (WA) when the BCRC group was formed. The company is well recognised in the West Australia construction scene as it has been involved in many of the larger WA construction projects. The two main thrusts of the business are:

Inspection and Repair Consultancy

BCRC (WA) have a very strong background in Inspection and Repair. Frank Papworth was the manager for the "Inspection and Repair Group" of Taywood Engineering Ltd UK and later the Asia Pacific and Australian TEL offices. Apart from undertaking assessments on many major projects around the world Mr Papworth was also responsible for major research and development projects in inspection and repair. For example pioneering research into what have become common methods such as  electrical potentials, concrete resistivity, polarisation resistance was undertaken for major projects such as “Concrete in the Oceans” sponsored by the UK’s Department of Energy in the 1980’s. Corrosion monitoring of offshore structures was reviewed in detail for Exxon and a $1m research programme into concrete repair was undertaken under joint EEC/DOE/Oil industry funding. It was also under Mr Papworths direction that the first conductive coating Cathodic Protection system was developed and the first "potential wheel with data logging was designed. Many of the developments were spun off to industry.

The culture established in inspection and repair development has been maintained. BCRC (WA) has been pioneering the use of more advanced NDT methods such as Impact Echo, Impulse Response, Ultrasonic Pulse Echo and Ground Penetrating Radar.

BCRC (WA) offer two inspection services:

Basic Testing

Where engineers experienced in analysis of NDT results require a service that strictly just reports the results BCRC can supply experienced field technicians that will undertake testing in accordance with BCRC's methods and provide the results to the client with no analysis in terms of significance to the structure. This is a low cost service for those that do not require high level analysis. This service is designed for contractors and engineers that want basic results like routine post pour cover checking or by experts in analysis who do not want to undertake field testing.

Advanced Testing and Analysis

For structures where the client wants a full report on the test results and their analysis in terms of significance to the structure BCRC (WA) provide a experienced consultant to in the testing and to undertake the analysis.

Where the testing service relate to the assessment of existing (old) structures BCRC can provide advice and specifications on remedial measures. This does not include contract documentations or project management although BCRC (WA) can advise on companies to engage for that role.

Durability Consultancy

BCRC (WA) provide the full range of Durability Consultancy Services.
