Papers

This section contains published papers by BCRC Consultants. For each there a written paper or a presentation that can be downloaded.

Sections Where Papers Are Located

1. Concrete Inspection

The use of a wide range of concrete inspection, testing and monitoring are detailed. Methods for reinforcement corrosion assessment, concrete quality, concrete strength and geometry are included. The papers cover use from assessment of construction to assessment of old structures that may require repair.

2. Concrete Materials

The performance of concrete will be largely dependent on the materials used to make that concrete. This section provides papers that discuss specific materials and the effects they have on concrete. Anyone material may have wide ranging affects on concrete.

3. Concrete Properties

The properties of concrete will be largely dependent on the materials used to make that concrete and hence there is some overlap with the section on concrete materials. . This section section focuses specifically on the concrete properties rather than the materials.

4. Concrete Repair

These papers provide details of various methods of concrete repair and include information on establishing a concrete repair programme. Information is included on patch repair, chloride extraction and cathodic protection. Mechanism of failure of repairs and the importance of materials properties are discussed

5. Concrete Structures

Papers that relate specifically to different structural forms, usage or exposure are provided in this section. The papers tend to discuss specific aspects of materials, construction and durability. Structure types discussed include, nuclear, mining, marine and oil & gas.

6. Crack Control

This section contains papers dealing with thermal analysis to give the inputs to contraction as well as design and construction methods for controlling crack widths

7. Durability Mechanisms

There are a diverse range of mechanisms that can lead to the premature deterioration of structures. This section includes papers that cover topics such as thermal analysis, cracking, chlorides and corrosion, sulphate attack and carbonation.

8. Durability Planning

A specialist durability consultant is used to provide a durability plan for most major structures today. The papers included here discuss the importance of using a durability consultant and how a durability plan is developed and implemented.

9. Geopolymers

BCRC are leaders in the research of Geopolymers. This section provides papers that BCRC have presented on Geopolymers. They cover the strength, corrosion resistance and acid resistance of Geopolymers

10. Shotcrete

This section contains papers on shotcrete and gunite. The papers refers to the materials used, the insitu properties and quality assurance.

11. Timber

BCRC represent TRADA in Australia. This section includes papers on the assessment and deterioration of timbers and timber structures.
